The concept was conceived by Dimitris Tselepís and George Panagiotidis in 1987 during their third year of studies at the School of Medical Instrument Technology at TEI Athens. Over the next two years, they developed and manufactured a prototype, which led to the founding of PROTEM.
PROTEAS was made available to many private individuals but primarily to SEAT Greece, which installed it in GREDOS models of that era. It was granted a patent by the Hellenic Industrial Property Organization (O.B.I.) in 1990."
